Ingredients
4 cups fresh broccoli florets
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
Salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly butter a baking dish.
2. Blanch broccoli florets for 2–3 minutes; drain and set aside.
3. In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, and cook for one minute.
4. Slowly whisk in milk until smooth and thickened.
5. Add shredded cheese and stir until melted into a creamy sauce.
6. Combine broccoli with sauce, season, and pour into the baking dish.
7. Top with breadcrumbs and bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
Notes
You can prepare the casserole one day ahead and refrigerate before baking.
For a lighter version, substitute milk with oat milk and cheese with a dairy-free blend.
