Description

A creamy, comforting broccoli casserole recipe made entirely from scratch — no canned soup! Fresh broccoli, real cheddar cheese, and a crisp topping make this a family favorite side dish for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

4 cups fresh broccoli florets

3 tablespoons butter

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups whole milk

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers

Salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly butter a baking dish.

2. Blanch broccoli florets for 2–3 minutes; drain and set aside.

3. In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, and cook for one minute.

4. Slowly whisk in milk until smooth and thickened.

5. Add shredded cheese and stir until melted into a creamy sauce.

6. Combine broccoli with sauce, season, and pour into the baking dish.

7. Top with breadcrumbs and bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden and bubbly.

Notes

You can prepare the casserole one day ahead and refrigerate before baking.

For a lighter version, substitute milk with oat milk and cheese with a dairy-free blend.

Pairs perfectly with roasted chicken or a fresh salad.
